Lire la suite >The present study presents a significant advancements in motor control technology: we present one of the first study during which the gaze and the 3D hand kinematics of two agents are collected in synchrony. In a very simple sequential collaborative pick and place task, we manipulated the information conveyed by the eyes of one of the two partners and analyzed the effects that this would have on the actions performed by the partner. Both participants wore audio earphones and were not allowed to talk. A low tone indicated that the object was to be placed to the left; a high tone indicated a placement towards the right. In the “congruent” trials, agent A was pre-cued with the same tone as agent B (Predictive). Thus, during A’s movements, B could exploit the averted gaze information from A to plan his movement faster than without that information. However, when A was pre-cued with the opposite tone than B (Counterpredictive), if B used this gaze information, it should have an interference effect and thus, modify the kinematics of the executed motor sequence in a significant way. Our results confirm these predictions on multiple kinematics parameters (e.g. peak velocities, movement duration and terminal spatial accuracy) further demonstrating the importance of gaze dynamics in face-to-face interactions.Lire moins >
