Show more >The aim of this paper is to show the initial activities carried out with schools to promote active and aware digital citizenship within the framework of the Observatoire Linguistique duDiscours Numérique – Olindinum. In spite of the promise of horizontality and a democraticnature for Web 2.0 and social media, public debate, managed by private platforms and therefore subject to market logic, risks amplifying inequalities in civil and political participation.Linguistics can and must intervene to reorient citizens in issues concerning public debate. Ademocratic linguistic education in online debate contributes to developing not only a semiotic, pragmatic and sociolinguistic awareness of the digital environment, but also enables acritical gaze towards the abusive and manipulative or argumentative strategies amplified byonline communication.Show less >
