Marshall Sahlins’ idea, as developed in relation to so-called primitives societies, of a quant-à-soi is relevant here. Forest management, a minor farming activity, is undertaken by the farmer’s retired father. The «woods» is a «space» in family life where the son who takes over the farm accords his father a legitimate place.Show less >
