On montre que la participation citoyenne peut constituer pour les engagés un moyen de parvenir à une forme d’empowerment en ce qu’elle permet, par la distribution de bénéfices symboliques, de remédier aux désajustements issus des expériences sociales vécues comme dénis de reconnaissance.Show less >

Show more >By mobilizing the tools of the sociology of activism, this article analyses the commitment’s meanings of “regular” and “unheard” actors of three “Conseils citoyens” in northern France. It is shown that citizen participation can be a means for those involved to achieve a form of empowerment in that it makes it possible, through the distribution of symbolic benefits, to remedy the misalignments resulting from social experiences experienced as denial of recognition.Show less >
