Her medical history comprised severe depression complicated by several voluntary drug intoxications. Latest treatment comprised aripiprazole, alimemazine and phenelzine. When her husband was questioned, he could not recall any evidence suggestive of excessive ingestion of drugs. However, he reported sudden onset of symptoms the day of admission. He found his wife comatose, with abnormal Discussion We report here a severe case of SS, likely caused by an interaction between substances whose serotonergic properties are established, and reported in the literature. While MAOI are frequently associated with this type of event [1], [2], cases of SS related to DEX are rarer, although DEX is widely used in anti-cough medicines because it was available over-the-counter [4]. Since July 2017, DEX is no longer available over-the-counter in France further to a decision by the National health products Conclusion We report a case of severe SS caused by an interaction between a MAOI and a cough syrup. This case underscores the potential toxicity of DEX, which was freely available for purchase over-the-counter in France until July 2017. It is likely that DEX can be a mediating agent for SS given its proven serotonergic properties. It is important for the potential toxicity of DEX to be brought to the attention of prescribers and users who may take this drug for as common an affection as cough.Lire moins >
