Lire la suite >Diwan on the prince of Emgión, collection of poems by Gunnar Ekelöf (1907-1968), is published in 1965 and becomes the first of the three books forming the Diwan-trilogy, one of the utmost highlights of twentieth century swedish poetry. It leads the reader into the world of the eleventh century Byzantium and Ekelöf chooses to present the poems as translations of ancient texts. Shortly after publishing the book he reveals being the author without changing it’s presentation. Ekelöf scholars have rarely considered the Diwan on the prince of Emgión as a pseudo-translation in spite of the book’s evident characteristics. Our aim is to present a reading of the Diwan as a pseudo-translation and to put the genre’s particular characteristics in relation to the book’s deeply autobiographical aspects as well as to the author’s previous work, in order to determine the specific effects of pseudo-translation on the poet’s voice.Lire moins >
