Lire la suite >Sound and noise reflections from acoustically rigid materials constituting buildings and roads contribute strongly to acoustic environment in urban areas. Building envelope greening which improves noticeably sound absorption, may be a solution for acoustic protection in cities when applied in a significant urban scale. Green systems are composed of naturel elements such as plants or substrate. Substrate ability to hold and release water is critical for plant development and survival during the dry season. It may also affect sound absorption. The purpose of this work is to evaluate how substrate moisture content affects sound absorption by green systems. A two-step method is used to perform this evaluation. Firstly, effective properties of plants and soils are measured in an impedance tube using three-microphones-two loads method under controlled moisture content. Secondly, sound absorption coefficient by the green system is calculated using matrix manipulation. Results are provided for different systems composed of plants and natural soils or light substrates. Effect of moisture content on sound absorption coefficient is analysed for each configuration.Lire moins >
